I am not an outdoor person and I freely admit it. Don’t give me a home where the buffalo roam. Not in the mountains, on the prairies, or the ocean white with foam. I don’t camp. I don’t hike. I don’t do well with creepy-crawlies. The woods are suspect. (Women being attacked and killed on my county’s hiking trails doesn’t help that, FYI.) Being out of a controlled environment β€” even if that control is only an illusion β€” means being out of my comfort zone.

Bungalow

Please leave me in my bungalow in the suburbs.

That said… I do value nature and the amazing plants and animals in it. There are few things more peaceful to me than sitting by an open window or on my porch with a cup of tea, some knitting, or a book, watching the woodland creatures that live in my yard, feeling the breeze coming through the trees. Or a ride in a convertible on an autumn day. Fresh air and sunshine are invigorating, revitalizing. Real endorphin boosters.

When I saw this video of the elephants at the Mfuwe Lodge of The Bushcamp Company (South Luangwa National Park, Zambia), I surprised myself. I wanted to be there, reading a book in that hotel lobby, watching those gorgeous pachyderms passing by the front desk. Watching that baby try to make sense of those stairs the way my 2-year-old grandson used to do after he started walking. LOL~ ❀

Every November, a family of elephants comes trotting right past the front desk on their way to a certain mango tree on the property. And to take a nap!

Maybe one day, I’ll get the courage and have the means to make a once-in-a-lifetime trip to this phenomenal place. Maybe. (I’m hooked on James Patterson’s Zoo on CBS. Eeekkkk!!!!) It could happen. I never thought I’d ever be in Hawaii either, so… πŸ™‚

(Hopefully, some damned big-game hunter thinking Gosh, I’m needing a trophy on my wall to feel my oats doesn’t skin and grin his way up in there first because, hey, it’s just an elephant.)
